Report on Emergency General Meeting
Thanks to the 30 or so people who came out and contributed to the emergency general meeting on June 21, 2008.
Club President Dan Bradley presented a summary of the club's financial and organizational situation on behalf of the Board of Directors:
- Due to overhead and dance expenses the club needs about 85 dancers each dance to break-even.
- The club has been surviving financially over the last couple of years due to government gaming grants!
- The current Board of Directors has 2 vacant positions.
- Volunteer time available from current board members is not adequate to cover all activities required to properly run club activities as well as promote and grow the club.
- The club does not have a Vice President preparing to take on the President's role in 2009.
During the general discussion a number of themes emerged:
- Suggestions that maybe the club's role and/or the club's focus needs to change (no consensus)
- Concerns/complaints about the music
- Some DJs are not keeping their music selection fresh.
- We need a "better" mix of music (with opposing opinions on what was considered a better mix of music)
- (For some dances) the sound equipment is not adequate.
- Concerns/complaints about the "ambiance" in the dance hall.
Marilyn Brodie stepped forward to join the Board of Directors - Thank you!
BCSDC Music Committee
Due to the overwhelming feedback about music quality we have created a music committee - with two eager and able Music Coordinators (Bryson Rochelle & John Kirkconnell) - and a mandate to evaluate and improve our music. Their activities will include member surveys and research into other clubs, DJ resources, etc.
If you want to volunteer your time to this committee please contact Dan (604-730-8830) or Ray (604-943-9656) and they will communicate with the music committee.

Wanna get involved?
Wanna get involved? Your Club needs volunteers.
Volunteers make everything happen, and you can be one!
- It's an opportunity to learn, make friends and give back to the dance
community.
- It can be on a low impact level by serving on a committee or you can
go for the gusto & become a director.
- If you are interested in running for the board at our AGM in Feb 08,
you can come to a board meeting to check it out.
For more info joining a committee or running for the board, please
contact Diane Brothers at 604 437-1189.
